About Us

Picture
We are just a small, family breeder, but we love our Bassets! We started with one (our beloved Wendy who never had pups), and quickly decided that another was the right thing for us. This website was created after our girl Lucy had a litter of puppies, because we wanted to help find new homes for them, and share our Basset family with others. I am a stay at home wife, homeschooling Mother of 5, and I love the joy that we get from raising great family Bassets, while making it possible for others to find that perfect lifetime companion.

We only raise AKC registered Basset Hounds with champion bloodlines. Our Bassets are not kenneled; they are allowed to roam freely around our three acre fenced in farm. When the females are in heat we have a large area fenced off for their safety. Before the pups are born, we move the mothers inside to whelp where we can stay by their side for at least the first 2 weeks. They stay inside until the puppies are 8 weeks of age. At 5 weeks (on nice days) they are given play time outside in a large puppy area, to teach them how to potty outside. Our adults and puppies are played with daily by myself, my husband, and our children.

All our males have been DNA tested by AKC. We will only breed our females if they are under the age of six. We only breed females that are healthy (for the safety of both mother and pups), and only then if we have homes lined up beforehand.
We do not inbreed any of our bassets.

Some may ask, "Why do you breed when there are so many adult dogs needing homes?"

As a family we have rescued several Bassets and found that with small children, it isn't always the best for the dogs or the children. Dogs who are not be accustomed to small children may be dangerous or even scared of them. Also, finding a Basset pup from a good environment can be difficult.

The price of my puppies can be found on the current puppies page or the upcoming litters page next to each planned litter.

I do not sell to puppy mills or large breeders. I put a lot of love and care into each pup, and want only the best forever homes for them. They are family.

I'm always willing to answer any questions you might have. In the future, if you find yourself needing help re-homing one of our past puppies, I'll help in any way I can. I will take back any of my past puppies if my families ever find themselves in a hardship situation.

Janzen Family Bassets (Georgia Basset Hound Puppies)  is located in the beautiful state of Georgia.

Our adult bassets have full run of large fenced areas. We rotate which groups are out so that everyone gets family time.

Our bassets have 2 separate 1 acre fenced in acres to run and play in. We pair them in groups and rotate their areas to give them more to explore.

Our "Puppy Apartment" is where the nursery is located. Puppies are born here and stay here until they go home.

Each nursery has an outdoor area where our mamas can go out and enjoy the sunshine. At around 4 weeks, the pups begin to go out; an important step for potty training.

The nursery rooms where mothers are moved when it's time to whelp. Puppies are raised here until 4 weeks.

We stay in the nursery until the pups are old enough to be left safely alone for short periods.

Even though our family is growing up and expanding, we still provide each puppy with daily hands on interaction with adults and children. When each puppy leaves us they are fully ready for their new homes. This makes all the difference in the world.

We always attend the birth to monitor the moms progress. We then stay directly by her side at all times after the birth through the first 2 weeks.

We have a camera system in the nursery so that we can monitor them if we have to step away for a moment. It is accessible from any mobile device.

Gone but not forgotten

Our main reason for loving the Basset Hound. "Wendy Janzen" (08-06-08 / 07-26-12). She never had puppies of her own, but always loved them. (If any breeders know of her line, I'd love to find a puppy.) Click picture to see pedigree.
